More Snow and A Great Weekend Ahead

We've had about 10 inches of new snow this week and that's great news for Mushers Bowl in Bridgton this weekend Jan 22-24, 2010. In addition the weatherman is predicting stellar winter weather for the weekend - with moderate temps and lots of sunshine. So come on up to Bridgton and have a great time.
In addition to the Mushers Bowl events there is plenty of new snow for snowmobilers to enjoy and of course skiers will want to check out the slopes at Shawnee Peak.
Don't miss this wonderful winter weekend in Maine's Western Mountains with lots to do fir the whole family.

Snowmobiles & Rabbits

On this sunny winter morning the town of Bridgton is hopping with activity. You see the Western Maine Rabbit Breeders Association is hosting a rabbit show at the old town hall. It seems this quite the event and people are coming from all over New England to participate.

Unseasonably warm weather is bringing people out in droves to enjoy some much needed rest and relaxation. All morning I've heard snowmobiles buzzing along the trail behind the house. This is Maine's premiere winter activity with no shortage of snow in a state that is famous for its long cold winters. More snow in the forecast for Sunday night into Monday which is a holiday for many people.

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Drive safely.

Perfect November

It looks like I've neglected posting to thsi blog for a long time. But today is truly worthy of a few words. The temperatures are hovering around 60 degrees, the sky is blue, the fish are jumping and I watched a bald eagle fly down the length of the lake. Not bad for November. The dogs had a great romp on the grounds and are particularly interested in routing out the poor little chipmunks.

Summer 2009 was a disappointment but fall has been quite mild and enjoyable.

Ducks & Geese & Loons

Here on the lake there are a lot of ducks and Canada Geese, I hear them all day long. But the Loons are probably the most popular water fowl, they are quite graceful and have a lovely call to their mates as they move up and down the lake. We've had some nice warm days and a few rainy ones as well. Yesterday the workers put the boat docks and swim dock in the water - a sure sign that summer is coming.

Unfortunately for ducks and geese - they tend to make a mess on beaches and lawns around the lake making them quite unpopular and a nuisance as well as causing "duck itch" for swimmers. It's a delicate balance isn't it - I mean we have the wild life on one side and humans on the other - and both trying to occupy the same spaces. I guess it's up to us humans to make an effort to strike a reasonable balance so we can all co-exist comfortably.

Maine Lake - the perfect place

Is there such a thing as the perfect place? Probably not, but this comes pretty close. I live on Highland lake in Western Maine. We live in a loft - an old converted barn - it's part of a resort and my husband is the operations manager. Me, well I just have a lot of time on my hands so I decided to share some of my daily experiences about living on a beautiful lake in a very small town (3,500 people). The four seasons bring dramatic changes to this part of the world and there is always a lot of speculation about the weather.
This is my backyard - not bad eh? We moved in in late March and of course the lake was still frozen solid - so it was amazing to watch the transformation. I've been keeping busy taking photos and working on my tan. Soon the toursits will start arriving and the resort will be busy and the town will be bustling with "people from way". Hope you have a chance to visit here sometime - it's worth the effort to get here.
