Ice Out on Highland Lake

It's official, the ice is out on Highland Lake in Bridgton. High winds broke up the last remaining sheets of ice and whipped up whitecaps that looked more like ocean waters than a lake. Fishing season is just around the corner and there were even some brave rowers out on the lake yesterday morning when the waters were calm.
Flowers are blooming in the gardens and there's lots of planting and gardening to do in the next few weeks. The ducks and geese are returning and songbirds are chirping happily announcing the return of warm weather. I'm already dreaming of the warm summer days ahead and lazy afternoons on the beach.

Spring Is Just Around the Corner

The snow is melting fast now and even when it does snow, it disappears in a day or two. I'm keeping an eye on the lake thinking the ice will go out early this year. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we have a mild "mud season", because let's face it, nobody likes mud.
I've had my memories of last summer to sustain me through the long winter and now I'm getting eager for the nice weather and welcoming the tourists to town. It always seems so festive in the summer when there's so much to do and people are outside enjoying the beaches, hiking, biking and picnics.

Quiet Time
Now that the holdiays are but a fading memory and we know that the ground hog has seen his shadow we are resigned to six more weeks of winter. It's pretty quiet here in Bridgton. A lot of the snow was washed away by a rain storm and we haven't had any new snow foir weeks. I rather miss the buzz of the snowmobiles outside my window. I've been doing some artwork but not as much photography as I hoped, it's too cold to go outside in search of things to photograph. I signed up for a digital camera class but the instructor had to have emergency surgery so the class is postponed for now. I am looking forward to the class starting up soon.

More Snow and A Great Weekend Ahead

We've had about 10 inches of new snow this week and that's great news for Mushers Bowl in Bridgton this weekend Jan 22-24, 2010. In addition the weatherman is predicting stellar winter weather for the weekend - with moderate temps and lots of sunshine. So come on up to Bridgton and have a great time.
In addition to the Mushers Bowl events there is plenty of new snow for snowmobilers to enjoy and of course skiers will want to check out the slopes at Shawnee Peak.
Don't miss this wonderful winter weekend in Maine's Western Mountains with lots to do fir the whole family.
